Step into one of America’s most remarkable historic neighborhoods—and the dramatic backdrop for HBO’s Murder in Glitterball City. Old Louisville isn’t just architecturally stunning; it’s layered with stories, secrets, and larger-than-life personalities.

Spread across more than 40 square blocks and home to over a thousand structures, this transitional neighborhood south of downtown Louisville is alive with revitalization, fascinating history, quirky residents, and colorful characters.Architecture lovers will be in heaven.

Nowhere else in the country will you find such a concentrated mix of late 19th- and early 20th-century styles—Italianate, Richardsonian Romanesque, Queen Anne, Beaux Arts, Renaissance Revival, Federal, and Victorian Gothic—all side by side, with no two homes alike.

From ornate stone carvings to soaring turrets and grand wraparound porches, every block feels like an open-air museum. One of the crown jewels is the Conrad-Caldwell House Museum, once nicknamed “Conrad’s Castle.” This imposing Richardsonian Romanesque masterpiece stuns with its bold stone façade and intricate details.

While our tour remains outdoors (as most properties are private residences), you’ll admire the exterior while uncovering the stories of the opulent life once lived inside. On select days, guests may arrange separate interior tours directly with the museum.Equally breathtaking is the Ferguson Mansion, a 25,000-square-foot Beaux Arts showpiece completed in 1905 and inspired by grand Parisian design.

Once considered the most magnificent home in Louisville, it now serves as headquarters for the Filson Historical Society. Nearby, you’ll stroll through 14-acre Central Park, designed by the firm of legendary landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted—the same visionary behind New York City’s Central Park. And then there are the legends.

At Sixth and Park stands a twisted tree tied to tales of local witches and a vengeful tornado sent to punish the city. Visitors still leave small offerings at its base. From stately mansions to whispered folklore, this tour reveals every side of Old Louisville—not just its beauty, but its soul.Come see why The New York Times recommends the ORIGINAL Old Louisville Walking Tour as the first thing to do during your "36 Hours In Louisville."Locally owned and operated for more than 20 years, we offer the most comprehensive introduction to Old Louisville—one of the largest historic preservation districts in the United States.

Our tour is more comprehensive and richer in storytelling than any other in the neighborhood.Over nearly two leisurely hours, you’ll hear tales of bourbon barons, racetrack royalty, and tobacco titans who made St. James Court and Millionaires Row their homes.

Explore the stately residences near Ormsby Avenue and around Olmsted-designed Central Park, and step inside hidden gems like Floral Terrace and Belgravia Court, hidden areas most visitors would never find on their own. This is the original. This is Old Louisville at its finest.
